Our Clinicians

Capri Griffith-Gonzalez

Founder & CEO

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Supervisor candidate. I decided to open this practice in 2018 with Joanna Hedin to provide a positive therapeutic experience for clients in the Summerville and surrounding area.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families to address issues and develop solutions.  I encourage clients to actively participate in treatment.  I believe each person is unique and deserving of understanding and compassion.

I have experience in working with Substance Abuse disorders, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and adjustment disorders.  I have a long history of working with Veterans and their unique issues.  In being a veteran myself I have great insight on how to overcome challenges with returning home.

I believe every day is a new opportunity to start again in a positive way.  Change is positive.

Clinical Lead

LPC-Supervisor Candidate

The process of beginning therapy and finding a therapist that is the right fit can feel overwhelming. It is difficult but empowering to ask for help. While making the first step is the hardest, working together we can identify issues and create solutions.

Anxiety, worry and panic can take over your life and struggling with these issues can be exhausting, but you find ways to keep going. I have over 18 years of experience as a counselor. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have been trained and find value and results in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, and Trauma - Focused CBT, all which are evidence based treatment. I have also been trained in Parent - Child Interactive Therapy (PCIT), used with children ages 3-8.

I work with children, adolescents, and adults, ages 7 and up. My work has included providing therapeutic services to address anxiety, depression, sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex trauma, parenting, marital conflicts, self-injurious behaviors, life transitions after divorce, high school students going to college and adjustments to new life situations.

My goal as a therapist is to work with those that seek refuge in counseling using a Person Centered and Family Systems Approach. I also utilize a collaborative approach based on my clients’ needs and abilities, which involves CBT and other forms of therapeutic interventions. When you step into my office I want you to feel seen, understood and validated. I believe all of your past and current experiences, relationships and interactions with others do play a role in who you are as a person and the growth your are looking to achieve.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples from the ages of 6-70 years old all in different phases of their life. I also have experience working with people who are diagnosed with Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, ODD, ADHD, Personality and Mood Disorders.

I want to be able to provide a safe space for those of all backgrounds who need guidance with managing issues, ranging from childhood trauma to day-to-day issues in their lives.

I am looking forward to helping you find your peace in therapy.

I have experience working with a variety of issues from anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, PTSD, Bipolar disorders, and childhood disorders such as ODD, ADHD, and more.

My job is to work with my clients to develop a trusting, safe environment for them to feel comfortable enough to express their emotions and needs. I utilize mindfulness approaches, among other helpful techniques, to reduce the impact that the psychological distress has on the client.

My compassionate and empathetic energy is shown by my ability to build trusting relationships with my patients. This enables me to provide the best therapy options and truly help them overcome their challenges.

I look forward to working with you to help you feel more like “you”.

Demi Henschel

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate (LPC-A) and am working to obtain my certification as a Certified Mental Performance Coach (CMPC). Life can present its challenges at times, and I am here to tell you that you do not have to go through it alone.

Each person is on a unique path of life and sometimes we may feel stuck and unsure of the next steps. I value a collaborative relationship where you and I can take those next steps together to accomplish your goals, and move towards positive change and optimal functioning.

My specialties include but are not limited to: sport performance, anxiety, depression, stress management/adjustment, grief and loss, self-concept, school issues, anger management, and interpersonal relationships.

It is my goal to provide a safe, genuine, non-judgmental, and empowering space throughout the counseling process. Together, we will work to improve overall wellbeing and discover strengths and abilities to overcome different obstacles in life. It would be such a pleasure to be on this journey with you!

One of the best things about being a therapist is the opportunity to empower you, to make you feel strong and heard, and to give you the tools to excel. I want you to feel welcomed and open to communicating feelings and emotions. I strive to provide you comfort and safety and be the listening ear you need.

My job is not to judge you or let preconceived notions or beliefs hinder progression, but rather uplift you and set a positive foundation for a healthy therapeutic relationship. Together, we will use therapeutic styles to rework negative thinking and explore emotions and feelings. I work with a wide variety of ages, from young children, adolescents, and into adulthood. I have specialized experience in working with mood disorders, as well as with adolescent behavioral issues (such as conduct disorders). With children, I utilize specific play therapy techniques to allow children to communicate the best way they know how... through PLAY!

I never want you to leave sessions feeling alone. I understand you, I hear you, and I'm here for you! The hardest part is done, you found me! Contact me to schedule an appointment, come on in, and let's do this together.

If you are reading this, contemplating whether to reach out about the experiences you are having, I am proud of you for doing your research to see what options are available to you. I am here to support your overall wellness, to remind you of the strengths you already possess but maybe can’t see for yourself right now, and collaborate with you on your counseling goals.

It would be my privilege to discuss what it is you’re looking to explore/grow/change in your life and provide treatment options I believe may support those intentions.

I will meet you where you are at in your mental health journey every step of the way. My experience includes a range of individuals presenting with various and/or multiple mental health concerns. My therapeutic approach is grounded in mindfulness and trauma-informed care that utilizes the skills of CBT, DBT, strength-based, narrative therapy, and more.

Existing in this world can bring with it a spectrum of feelings and it is okay to ask for support as you experience them. My hope is for you to feel seen, learn new skills to cope with whatever life throws your way, and to walk away from our time together feeling incredibly capable. You are valid in all your forms and I look forward to working alongside you.

Lauren Hammes

For the past two years, I have worked with adults and teens in recovery from substance use disorder. This also provided me experience with other struggles such as anxiety and depression.

My approach is holistic and mindfulness-based. My background in Creative Arts Therapy allows for there to be creativity in the therapeutic space as well. I’m all about peeling away the layers and getting to know what “self” feels the most authentic.

I look forward to to helping you taking the first steps towards healing.

Life comes in waves of varying size and strength. Some of them may feel manageable and others may take more practice and support to navigate. Although some waves can feel intimidating, my approach highlights that every individual has unique strengths and capabilities to navigate even the strongest of storms. As your counselor I will provide individualized support, education, and encouragement as you practice the various techniques to surf your way through the unpredictability of life.

My most recent experience has given me the opportunity to work specifically with cancer patients, caregivers, and their loved ones to support their mental health needs. I also have experience in working through a variety of mental health experiences including but not limited to anxiety, depression,
PTSD/trauma, grief, and substance use. I have worked with various age groups from children to adults, utilizing a variety of counseling modalities (individual, couples, families, and groups).

I look forward to supporting you as you face the waves.
