Targeted Support That Makes a Difference

Relationship Counseling

Do you feel like you and your significant other can not seem to understand each other?

Relationships are not always as easy as the storybooks. Couples and relationships come in a variety of forms and can have a unique set of complications. Relationship counseling can be for individuals or all parties of the relationship. Couples counseling can improve communication, make thoughtful decisions about rebuilding and strengthening the relationship, or going your separate ways in an amicable way. In many occasions, couples seek out therapy when the relationship is in a very difficult place however couples can use therapy to continue to build a stronger relationship and work out conflict before things get bad.

Relationship counseling can help with various issues such as:

Communication problems

Sexual difficulties

Substance abuse

Conflicts about child rearing or blended families

Making the decision to go to couples counseling can be tough. Sometimes taking the first step by admitting the relationship needs help is the hardest part. If you are having trouble in your relationship seeking help is going more effective than ignoring the problems or hoping they get better on their own. Couples counseling can be insightful and empowering.

Our Clinicians

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a Supervisor candidate. I decided to open this practice in 2018 with Joanna Hedin to provide a positive therapeutic experience for clients in the Summerville and surrounding area.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families to address issues and develop solutions.  I encourage clients to actively participate in treatment.  I believe each person is unique and deserving of understanding and compassion.

I have experience in working with Substance Abuse disorders, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, and adjustment disorders.  I have a long history of working with Veterans and their unique issues.  In being a veteran myself I have great insight on how to overcome challenges with returning home.

I believe every day is a new opportunity to start again in a positive way.  Change is positive.

Capri Griffith-Gonzalez, LMFT-S

I have worked with youth and families for a number of years, helping them face life and the challenges that occur and improving how the family functions.

I strongly believe establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship in a nonjudgmental environment is vital to the success of therapy.  My purpose is to help clients reach their goals and improve their quality of life.

Joanna Hedin, LISW-CP/S

I utilize a realm of therapeutic techniques and styles as each client is different, and not all styles fit for everyone. I work to ensure that techniques utilized for the client are tailored to their needs and goals. I use the client's strengths and incorporate goal-directed therapeutic techniques as I believe each client has the resources within to change.

Candace Harms, LPC

The challenges one is faced with in life or while living can be frightening, overpowering, and at times overwhelming. I believe in the power of transformation for anyone searching for healing and change through counseling. I utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches based on the needs of each client. I also collaborate with clients to develop therapeutic goals that will meet their needs and adjustments in their life.

Te'on Fickens, LPC

As a counselor, my top priorities are making sure that clients feel safe and advocated for during sessions, and that we take a collaborative approach towards treatment goals. I practice with an abolitionist and integrative approach, depending on the needs of the client. My background and training is in Substance Use/Addictions, Trauma (both children and adults), and general mental health maintenance.  I enjoy working with clients of all backgrounds, including the LGBTQIA+ community.

Chris believes in a cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and trauma responsive approach to counseling. Chris believes there is no "one size fits all" approach to therapy and meets clients where they are in hopes of guiding them toward making positive changes. Chris’s focus is to provide clients with a safe environment to share thoughts and feelings, explore their development as a human, and guide clients in developing skills to maintain positive thinking and adaptive behaviors.
